33rd Annual

Sufi Retreat in Mexico

January 9 – 16, 2027

with Allaudin Ottinger and Munira Reed

Allaudin Ottinger and Munira Reed

Come join us for a wonderful retreat on a beautiful beach...

...where the jungle meets the sea. The Mexico retreat provides a rare opportunity to dive deeply into spiritual practice and inquiry within a supportive community while enjoying the great beauty and serenity of the natural world. Mornings are spent exploring Sufi teachings and other mystical traditions, dancing, meditation, and discussion. Afternoons are free for swimming, hiking, boating, whale-watching, or just relaxing on the pristine beach, which is right at your doorstep. Evenings are devoted to Dances of Universal Peace and Zikr, the Sufi practice of remembrance.

The oceanfront retreat is located in a fishing village two hours north of Puerto Vallarta. Swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym, and spa with hot and cold pools are located on the premises. Delicious meals emphasize fresh local fish, fruit, vegetables, chicken, and native cuisine.

The owners of the resort where the retreat is held created a primary school for children, a large organic farm and other services projects in the village. Your room fees help pay for these essential services.

Please register early as space is limited (the registration form is at the bottom of this page).

Munira Reed is a Sheikha (senior teacher) and Cheraga (Sufi minister) in the Sufi Ruhaniat International. She is a psychospiritual therapist, clergy, workshop facilitator and nonprofit director, and has published many articles. Munira is a senior mentor of the Dances of Universal Peace network and on the board of directors. She leads dance programs all over the world, focusing on mentoring young dance leaders. She was shaped by her early life in the USA's "Deep South" with its decades of human rights struggles (civil rights, ecological, feminist, gender/sexuality). Her continuing vision is for a more just and inclusive world through interspiritual peacemaking. Munira’s teachings at the Mexico Retreat will focus on Mary and the goddesses of the first-century Middle East which is also the subject of her current writing project.

Allaudin Ottinger is a Murshid (senior teacher) in the Sufi Ruhaniat International. As a lifelong musician, Allaudin has presented in a variety of settings throughout the world offering sacred Sufi, World, and children’s music. He has also recorded several albums of Sufi music, jazz, and poetry. Allaudin has led Dances of Universal Peace since 1979, and is a mentor/member of the Dances of Universal Peace network, a Cherag (Sufi minister), and a Dervish Healing Order initiate. He has helped steer the Ozark Sufi Camp for over 40 years. Allaudin is honored to have led tours to Ajmer, India (Moineddin Chishti's tomb), Uluru (an Aboriginal sacred site in Western Australia), and Burning Man of the Nevada desert. But most of all, he is looking to help the caravan of Body, Heart, and Soul of every being he encounters along the way.

Dear friends,
For this upcoming retreat we will be sharing the retreat center with another, smaller group. Please register as early as possible to insure your space because we have a limited number of rooms available to us. There is a $50 retreat price increase on August 1st, and another $50 price increase on September 1st — so please take advantage of the early bird price.

This coming year we are honored to have Allaudin Ottinger return to offer his beautiful Dances, Zikrs, and Sufi teachings. For the first time, Munira Reed will be joining us. She is a wonderful teacher, Dance leader, and author. At our Mexico Retreat, Munira will offer teaching on the Divine Feminine, and the mystical Aramaic and goddess themes. I am very excited to have her join us, and I am sure we will all benefit from her presence and teachings.

I am very much looking forward to the beautiful, peaceful, and joyous heart space we share together each year. I hope you will join us!

With so much love and gratitude,

Madhura
